Abolish I.C.E. Origami Crane

2026.01.30.

In response to ongoing, escalating I.C.E. kidnapping, imprisonment, and murders in the US.

Abolish I.C.E.

The design of this origami, made up of many squares with various colors, was created inspired by and sampling colors from Angélica Dass’ Humanæ project. My experience of Dass’ project is humanistic; “… demonstrat[ing] that what defines the human being is its inescapabl[e] uniqueness and, therefore, its diversity.” Sampling skin tones from Humanæ project, this origami crane represents many of us, from different places, different cultures, with different skin tones.

Freezing this origami crane—representing collective us—in a block of ice, melting it and freeing the crane, reflects the necessity I see to abolish I.C.E. The hurt it has created extends beyond those of us who are immigrants. There’s no just reason for these murders, kidnappings, brutality and imprisonments done by I.C.E. I found meaning in cuing off of Dass’ project, where I find beauty and hope “call[ing] into question the contradictions and stereotypes related to the race issue.”
